John “Fred” Ames, Jr.
I am responsible for all aspects of the Practice along tax and financial planning, business and personal consulting. Acting “Off-Site” Chief Financial Officer for several small to medium size business client’s with an additional focus in helping find “business continuity”. Working with client’s to find creative ways achieve their needs and goals. I work with client’s estates along with probate administration. Additional services include litigation services, evaluations, domestic relations, projections, proformas, offering statements and assisting and advising in these matters. In the tax area, I have handled protests, appeals, petitions to the Tax Court and other appellant matters. My Knowledge and experience includes valuation of businesses and professions, acquisitions and disposition of businesses, professional corporations, no-profit institutions, real estate, distributions and manufacturing, estate and financial planning and analysis of tax advantaged investments. I offer professional advice from a tax and business standpoint for new, continuing and merging businesses, including budgets, projections, type of entity and assisting and advising and setting up said business ventures. I enjoy in-depth tax and financial planning along with helping client’s find creative ways to keep competitive in their industry.
At 18, I went to Virginia Tech believing I wanted a career in Mathematics. During my junior year, I realized I loved the problem solving aspect of Math. I graduated from Tech in 2001 with a BS in Mathematics but added a minor in Business as well. Not sure what to do with my life and looking to my mentors for inspiration, I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps into Accounting. I received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting from VCU in 2003. While still in school, I started my professional career by driving 45 minutes to a warehouse to maintain the QuickBooks Accounting System of a Flooring Company. I fell in love with bookkeeping and have kept the books for over 100 companies. I enjoy organizing an office full of paperwork and finding unique solutions to problems. I am dedicated and treat every client’s company as my own. I am an efficient payroll specialist, file organizer, bookkeeper, and CFO all in one great package!
After finishing obedience school early and graduating summa cum laude from K9 State’s accounting program, Deacon Ames was brought on board by Ames Accounting as both pawtner and mascot. He helps sniff out every single deduction during tax season to fetch customers the returns that they deserve. On the weekends, Deacon enjoys long walks with Catherine, kicking the basketball around with Fred, and dealing Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments.
